Red Bee creates BBC One Christmas idents

Red Bee Media is behind BBC One’s Christmas idents, which reference several popular shows in a “magical forest” scene.

The set of three idents imagines the forest as representative of BBC One’s role “at the heart of the nation” according to Red Bee, which sees the forest as a focal point for people to gather.

Shows which have historically pulled in huge audiences for the BBC over the Christmas period, including Doctor Who, The Great British Bake Off and Strictly Come Dancing, are referenced in the idents.

Red Bee says that Christmas on BBC One gives the broadcaster the chance “to connect with viewers who watch BBC One less frequently but are watching with their families over Christmas, and to create a halo effect for the BBC as a whole”.

The consultancy says its solution is a unifying idea everyone can relate to. “Everyone has a Christmas tree at Christmas, and everyone has strong opinions on how it’s decorated. We created a magical forest filled with people decorating their trees in individual and diverse ways. Among the action we also see Christmas trees that echo much loved BBC One programmes.”

Idents, stings, and a set of menus and endboards have been created.
