I am all for new regulations. I struggle on a daily basis with jars, plastic lids, and even cheese packaging. I am forced to ask my partner to open products and feel like a child while I am a 31-year-old female. Let’s change the world!

My pet-hate: those tiny bottles of shampoo / conditioner / body lotion in hotel rooms – very hard to open and, when you finally succeed, they all look the same with font-size so tiny you need reading glasses to ensure correct application!

I am an ‘older respondent’, as referred to by Neil Littman, and have always found opening jam or pickle jar tops a bit of an issue. If you pour boiling water onto the lid and wait for a couple of minutes the metal will expand, and it will then open. Tetra pack pull rings are another problem; the contents usually end all over the table rather than in the glass. And universal content labeling and the traffic lights labels are so all over the place. It’s a design issue that needs cracking to help everyone.

I think I might be struggling to open a package if I were aged 104! Am intrigued by this survey and would love to know a bit more about the older respondents. Am assuming they are living independently. One tip for opening jars and bottles, is there is a device which I have owned for over 20 years called a universal opener with different sized grips that provides additional leverage instead of having to put all your strength into holding the container directly.
